How Ionizers Work
Ionizers work by a process called electrolysis. When water is moved through electrically charges plates it's separated into two parts: an acid solution (oxidizing) and an alkaline solution (reduced water). High pH water is used for drinking and the acid water is used for cleaning and as a disinfectant. Minerals like sodium, calcium or magnesium much be present in the water for ionizers to work, so distilled water and reverse osmosis water can't be used.

Some Ionizer Terms Defined
Electrolysis. All ionizers work by the process of Electrolysis. When water with sodium, calcium or magnesium water is passed through electrically charged plates it becomes ionized, and separates into an acid solution and base or alkaline water.
ORP - Oxidation Reduction Potential is definded as the measure of the anti oxidant properties of the water and ranges from approximately -200mv to - 850mv. The more minus the better the water.
pH - Potential for hydrogen ion concentration is a measure of the acid or alkalinity (base) of water. A pH of 7.0 is considered neutral, below 7.0 is acid and above 7.0 is considered alkaline.
Metal Plates - The heart of any water ionizer, usually made of titanium with a coating of platinum. When water passes through these electrically charged plates, water is split into two solutions, acid and base or alkaline. The water must contain minerals like calcium or magnesium for the electrolysis to work.
